A true guidance in life, the duality of man - revisited

Everyone has their demons. Some come out all the time and some only come out when they are fed alcohol. I have the question, are humans basically good with evil intentions or are they evil with good intentions? No one can really answer this question. Many times in my life i feel that i am both good and evil. It depends on the situation.

Those who know me know that i am a devout Catholic. I am not as my Brother says, a sheeple, but i am educated in my Faith. I have researched a lot, read a lot, and have read some of the early writings of the Fathers of Catholicism. I do not accept on blind faith. I have researched the writing of the bible and the starting of religion as it relates to Christianity.

After all this digging, reading and researching, the answer to my question is best answered by an Indian Chief talking to a young Brave. The story goes something like this:

An elderly Cherokee Native American was teaching his grandchildren about life. He said to them " A fight is going on inside me. It is a terrible fight and it is between two wolves. One wolf is evil - he is fear, anger, envy, sorrow, regret, greed, arrogance, self-pity, guilt, resentment, inferiority, lies, false pride, competition, superiority and ego."

"The other is good - he is joy, peace, love, hope, sharing, serenity, humility, kindness, benevolence, friendship, empathy, generosity, truth, compassion and faith. This same fight is going on inside you, and inside every person, too"

They thought about this for a minute, and then the young brave asked his grandfather, " Which wolf will win?"

The old Cherokee replied " The one you feed"

This story simplifies everything for me. All you have to do is feed the good wolf. Pray, be nice, listen, smile, help, all these little words can greatly improve your life if you apply them.

We feed our wolves every day. Make a conscious effort to feed the good wolf.

I truly give this excerpt al lot of respect. I give it because I know that you have studied it and you truly feel attatched or atleast famliar to these ideas. The only problem with this is that you tend to not have a blind faith. O.k.........As far as I know, blind means that one does not have the capablitiy to see the facts in a mortal fashion with you own eyes. And unless, you have seen Jesus, and you have been touched by the holy spirit in a way that has taken all other plagorisms out of the picture, All faith is blind. Has Jesus spoken to You? other than a dream? Do you often speak to GOD on a personal level. Have you seen his existince. If you have than I truly am sorry. I just want to know more about it and how I can aquire it. If you are not leading a blind worship over something that you ultimatley just want to stay out of hell and the chattering of teeth, then SO be it. you could be just living out of fear for the unknown. Know one on this earth knows any different. I am also on the fence about it. I believe that there is definately higher power. I mean.......where did the first atom come from? where did God come from? In a scientifically explanation. Everything was created. BY WHO? and who created WHO. and who is WHO. Have you ever thought about where the first thing in the universe came from. Or for that matter, where did the universe come from? I guess what I am trying to say is that anything is possible. ANd the only thing that we know for sure is that our reactions and descisions on this earth are going to be delt with on earth and we will pay for our mistakes. I think that we change our ways of living moreover because of the reprecussions that we will be delt with in life. On earth. That is what sparks change. Not a bible verse that will condemn us to hell
(Hell that we cant be sure exists"
How do we know that when we die, we don't wind up as fossil fuels, because this, atleast, we can prove

I am going to try to answer your questions. My answers are what i believe. They are not any doctrine or anything, just how i believe.

First, i believe there is a God. For a mans sperm to meet a womens egg and create something as complex as the human body, has to be designed by God. Then to create a human brain, can not be evolution. It is too complex. Evolution exist in lower life forms such as butterflys and tadpoles. Nothing that evolves has the complexity of a human mind. With this being fact, i believe that i was created by God.He exist.

Have i seen his existence, absolutely. Look at all the people around you. They exist because God created them.

I believe that i personnaly have been touched by the Holy Spirit. I experienced this when i had the overwhelming desire to come back to the church about 10 years ago. One may argue that it is just a feeling, but i know in my heart it was more. It was a burning desire. It was real.

As for where the first atom came from, i have no idea. I do know that it has no bearing on how i live my life. We are not meant to know this. The big bang theory more than likely happened to create our universe. I just believe that God made it happen. He did it for us. We were created for one reason only. To Love and Serve God. Period. Don't let the why's and the how's distract you from Loving God. I can't tell you how a motor works buy i still drive my car. Not knowing shouldn't keep you from Loving God.

It you accept that the human brain and body are too complex for evolution and designed by God, then logically there would be a hell. If hell exist, then Satan is a reality.

As for proof, it is irrelevant. You can't prove to me that you love your parents any more than i can prove that God exist. You take it on Faith, just not blind faith.

Well, I appreciate your response. It doesn't change things a whole lot for me, though. I am looking for a sign. An obvious sign. Maybe this IS the sign. Maybe, I am too stupid to see what is right in front of my face. We have certainly discussed this topic in great detail. I guess... what it all boils down to for me is I feel like you and I are so much alike in our morals and convictions, I find myself asking "Why don't I have the same Faith?" I want it, I am just struggling to find it. Peace, Rick
