Racial Profiling

So everyone thinks that the new Arizona law will lead to racial profiling, hum.....

Well, if your trying to catch illegal immigrants from Mexico, who should you be looking for? Jews? Germans? Cajuns? oh, i know, Mexicans? Well Duh!!

No shit the cops will have to profile, you stupid idiots that's are who they are looking for.

If your an American Citizen then you shouldn't mind or have a hard time proving it. What is the big deal? Here at my company, we have to use a system called E-Verify whenever we hire someone. It is the same thing. You have to be able to prove you are here legally. I don't understand what is the big deal.

You don't like it, tough shit, suck it up and move on.

How I feel about this depends on details.

If the cops have good reason to believe someone is illegal, and are in a situation where they are currently entitled to demand ID, I don't have a problem with requiring evidence of legal residency. I also don't have any issue with jailing an illegal rather than merely deporting them.

I am not OK with this becoming some sort of "papers, please", or of being able to randomly demand proof of status on a pretext. I don't carry proof of citizenship with me.

My work requires a photo ID and a TWIC card, besides the safety training, which requires documentation to attend. Since I hire people, I have to verify legal status and sign an I-9 form, which is placed in a stacked that can be audited.(They will do this and fine you if the documentation is not correct.)

So, I prove my legal status or I don't work. I feel the same is only appropriate for everyone else, especially since it's a federal law if you work in the United States.

As far as carrying documentation, not carrying any is asking for problems if you're pulled over, or questioned for suspicious activity. At best, you have to lose time waiting for someone to bring the information. At worst, you're arrested and spend time in jail until your identity is proven, or releasing you is waived for a traffic citation.

I carry ID--I pretty much have to if I'm going to drive, or legally carry a gun. That doesn't mean I agree that I should be *required* to, or that the government should be allowed to keep tabs on me.

I like Joe Huffman's jews in the attic test-- Will this law make it difficult or impossible to protect innocent life from a government intent on their imprisonment or death? Requiring ID to merely exist in public, without probable cause is much farther down that road than requiring ID to work or drive.

(full disclosure: My wife is a Hispanic US citizen)
