The Ontario Consultants on Religious Tolerance ask on their Web site (religioustolerance.org), "If we hold to Leviticus’ statements as being a blanket condemnation of homosexuality, do we then also obey the rest of the old law?" </div>
They go on to explain with examples:<br />
<ul>
<li>"If a man has recently married, he must not be sent to war or have any other duty laid on him. For one year he is to be free to stay at home and bring happiness to the wife he has married." (Deut. 24:5). Does ANYONE keep this law? Could you manage a whole year without a paycheck?</li>
<li>"Do not hate your brother in your heart." (Lev. 19:17). Don’t hate your siblings, even while growing up, or else you have broken the entirety of the law.</li>
<li>"Do not cut the hair at the sides of your head or clip off the edges of your beard." (Lev. 19:27). Don’t shave! Ever!</li>
</ul>
It seems that the Ontario Consultants wish to make the following point: Since Christians do not follow to the letter every one of the 613 laws found in the Old Testament, we should not expect those who suffer from same-sex attraction to observe Old Testament laws on homosexuality. <br />
<div class="headline3">
<span style="font-size: x-small;"><strong>Meanwhile . . .</strong></span></div>
On another front, the Eternal Gospel Church in West Palm Beach, Florida (a Seventh-day Adventist group) takes out full-page ads in newspapers around the country condemning Sunday worship in favor of Saturday worship. One such ad reports, "Church officials met . . . to establish Sunday as the official religion throughout all of Christianity, and to excommunicate and persecute those who kept the seventh-day Sabbath."<br />
This action is then pitted against Exodus 20:10, which requires keeping holy the Sabbath day—Saturday—not Sunday, the church says.<br />
It seems that the Eternal Gospel Church believes that the early Church had no authority to designate Sunday as a Christian day of worship when God so clearly had already set aside Saturday for that purpose. Their stance, in contrast to the Ontario Consultants on Religious Tolerance, apparently, is that at least some Old Testament laws <em>are</em> binding on Christians.<br />
With all this confusion what are we to do? Scrap all Old Testament laws? Observe all of them? Pick and choose? <br />
<div class="headline3">
<span style="font-size: x-small;"><strong>Jesus, the Law’s Fulfillment</strong></span></div>
The answer is: none of the above. Old Testament law, as such, is not binding on Christians. It never has been. In fact, it was only ever binding on those to whom it was delivered—the Jews (Israelites). That said, some of that law contains elements of a law that is binding on all people of every place and time. Jesus and Paul provide evidence of this in the New Testament.<br />
Matthew’s Gospel enlightens us to Jesus’ teaching concerning Old Testament law:<br />
<blockquote>
[A Pharisee lawyer] asked him a question, to test him. "Teacher, which is the great commandment in the law?" And he said to him, "You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, and with all your soul, and with all your mind. This is the great and first commandment. And a second is like it, You shall love your neighbor as yourself. On these two commandments depend all the law and the prophets." (Matt. 22:34-40)</blockquote>
In saying this, Jesus declared the breadth of the new law of his new covenant which brings to perfection the old law. He explained further to his disciples:<br />
<blockquote>
"Think not that I have come to abolish the law and the prophets; I have come not to abolish them but to fulfill them. For truly, I say to you, till heaven and earth pass away, not an iota, not a dot, will pass from the law until all is accomplished. Whoever then relaxes one of the least of these commandments and teaches men so, shall be called least in the kingdom of heaven; but he who does them and teaches them shall be called great in the kingdom of heaven." (Matt. 5:17-19)</blockquote>
How could Jesus fulfill the Old Testament law without relaxing it? The <em>Catechism of the Catholic Church</em> states, "The Law has not been abolished, but rather man is invited to rediscover it in the person of his Master who is its perfect fulfillment" (CCC 2053).<br />
<em>A Catholic Commentary on Holy Scripture</em> explains,<br />
<blockquote>
The solemnity of our Lord’s opening pronouncements and his clear intention of inaugurating a new religious movement make it necessary for him to explain his position with regard to the [Old Testament law]. He has not come to abrogate but to bring it to perfection, i.e. to reveal the full intention of the divine legislator. The sense of this "fulfilling" . . . is the total expression of God’s will in the old order . . . Far from dying . . . the old moral order is to rise to a new life, infused with a new spirit. (861)</blockquote>

<span style="font-size: x-small;"><strong>How Jesus Perfects OT Law</strong></span></div>
Old Testament law included many dietary regulations which were instituted as a preparation for his teaching on the moral law. Jesus discussed these laws:<br />
<blockquote>
"Hear me, all of you, and understand: there is nothing outside a man which by going into him can defile him; but the things which come out of a man are what defile him." And when he had entered the house, and left the people, his disciples asked him about the parable. And he said to them, "Then are you also without understanding? Do you not see that whatever goes into a man from outside cannot defile him, since it enters, not his heart but his stomach, and so passes on?" (Thus he declared all foods clean.) (Mark 7:14-19)</blockquote>
The <em>Catechism</em> explains, "Jesus perfects the dietary law, so important in Jewish daily life, by revealing its pedagogical meaning through a divine interpretation . . . What comes out of a man is what defiles a man. For from within, out of the heart of man, come evil thoughts . . ." (CCC 582). Paul taught similarly concerning other Old Testament law:<br />
<blockquote>
[L]et no one pass judgment on you in questions of food and drink or with regard to a festival or a new moon . . . These are only a shadow of what is to come; but the substance belongs to Christ . . . Why do you submit to regulations, "Do not handle, Do not taste, Do not touch" (referring to things which all perish as they are used), according to human precepts and doctrines? These have indeed an appearance of wisdom in promoting rigor of devotion and self-abasement and severity to the body, but they are of no value in checking the indulgence of the flesh. (Col. 2:16-17; 20-23)</blockquote>
In this passage we can see that Paul recognized that much of the Old Testament law was instituted to set the stage for the new law that Christ would usher in. Much of the old law’s value could be viewed in this regard.<br />
Jesus’ teaching about the Sabbath indicates similar value in <em>part</em> of the Old Testament regulation of the Sabbath:<br />
<blockquote>
Jesus went through the grainfields on the Sabbath; his disciples were hungry, and they began to pluck heads of grain and to eat. But when the Pharisees saw it, they said to him, "Look, your disciples are doing what is not lawful to do on the Sabbath." He said to them, "Have you not read what David did, when he was hungry, and those who were with him: how he entered the house of God and ate the bread of the Presence, which it was not lawful for him to eat nor for those who were with him, but only for the priests? Or have you not read in the law how on the Sabbath the priests in the temple profane the Sabbath, and are guiltless? I tell you, something greater than the temple is here. And if you had known what this means, ‘I desire mercy, and not sacrifice,’ you would not have condemned the guiltless. For the Son of man is lord of the Sabbath." (Matt. 12:1-8)</blockquote>
Clearly, Jesus indicated that he—not the Old Testament—had authority over the Sabbath, and its regulation was not as rigid as the Pharisees thought. In fact, once Jesus would endow the hierarchy of his Church with his own authority (Matt. 16:19; 18:18), regulation of worship would become the domain of the Church. <br />
<div class="headline3">
<span style="font-size: x-small;"><strong>The Law That’s Rooted in Reason</strong></span></div>
It is important to point our here that the obligation to worship is something all people of every place and time can know simply through the use of reason. It is knowledge built into the human conscience as part of what is called the "natural law." Paul makes note of such law when discussing those of his own time who were never bound by Old Testament law: "When Gentiles who have not the law do by nature what the law requires, they are a law to themselves, even though they do not have the law. They show that what the law requires is written on their hearts . . ." (Rom. 2:14-15a).<br />
The Ten Commandments are often cited as examples of the natural law. Christians are obliged to follow the laws cited in the Ten Commandments not <em>because</em> they are cited in the Ten Commandments—part of Old Testament law—but because they are part of the natural law—for the most part.<br />
Certainly we can know by reason alone that certain actions are immoral—e.g., to kill the innocent, to take what does not belong to us, to cheat on our spouses, etc.<br />
Similarly, we can know by reason alone that we are obliged to worship our Creator. But can we really know in the same way that such worship should take place on <em> Saturday</em> every week? Of course not! That part of the Sabbath commandment is not part of the natural law at all but was simply a law imposed upon the Jews for the discipline of their nation. Other people had the authority to choose for themselves the time they set aside for worship. For Christians now, it makes sense to do this on Sunday.<br />
The <em>Catechism of the Catholic Church</em> explains,<br />
<blockquote>
The celebration of Sunday observes the moral commandment inscribed by nature in the human heart to render to God an outward, visible, public, and regular worship as a sign of his universal beneficence to all. Sunday worship fulfills the moral command of the Old Covenant, taking up its rhythm and spirit in the weekly celebration of the Creator and Redeemer of his people. (CCC 2176)</blockquote>
Old Testament law required, as a discipline, that the Jews worship on Saturday. Similarly, the Church obliges Catholics to worship on Sunday, the day of the Lord’s Resurrection.<br />
Like the majority of the law found in the Ten Commandments, the Church’s teaching on the immorality of homosexual activity is part of the natural law. People of every time and place can know this through reason alone and are bound by it even without explicit teaching on it. It wasn’t absolutely necessary for God to include such teaching in Old Testament law, nor was it absolutely necessary to include it in the New Testament. Even so, the New Testament contains ample teaching in this regard. (For a fuller treatment of this issue, see "Homosexuality," <em>This Rock</em>, April 2006.) <br />
<div class="headline3">
<span style="font-size: x-small;"><strong>The Law That Binds</strong></span></div>
So, to answer the Ontario Consultants on Religious Tolerance and the Eternal Gospel Church, Christians are bound to the law of Christ which, of course, includes the natural law.<br />
Old Testament law contains elements of natural law—e.g., the condemnation of homosexual activity—to which Christians are bound for <em>that</em> reason, not because of their inclusion in the Old Testament. Christians do not have liberty on these issues.<br />
Also, Christians are not and have never been bound by Old Testament law for its own sake, and those elements of Old Testament law which are not part of the natural law—e.g., the obligation to worship on <em>Saturday</em> —were only ever binding on the Jews. Christians do have liberty on those issues.</div>

I can't say that i blame them. But i do question their hypocrisy. Catholics, as a whole, believe that divorce is sinful. A divorced person cannot get married in the Catholic church unless they can prove that their first marriage was not sacramental. This is the annulment process.<br />
<br />
The protestant religions however do not have a problem with divorce. I know from personal experience that the local Baptist church has many members that have been divorced and remarried. Why is it that these protestants will take a stand against same sex marriage but will not take a stand against divorce?<br />
<br />
Since we know the Levitical laws where created to set apart the nation of Israel. It is not for the Gentiles to follow these rules, being a true believer in Jesus Christ fulfills the purpose of these laws. So we take the Old Testament out of the equation. Let's focus on just the New Testament:<br />

Luke 16:18<br />“Everyone who divorces his wife and marries another commits adultery, and he who marries a woman divorced from her husband commits adultery."<br />
Corinthians 7:10-11<br />"To the married I give this charge (not I, but the Lord): the wife should not separate from her husband (but if she does, she should remain unmarried or else be reconciled to her husband), and the husband should not divorce his wife."<br />
Matthew 5:32<br />"But I say to you that everyone who divorces his wife, except on the ground of sexual immorality, makes her commit adultery, and whoever marries a divorced woman commits adultery."<br />
Mark 10:12<br />"And if she divorces her husband and marries another, she commits adultery.”<br />
Corinthians 7:10-17 <br />To the married I give this charge (not I, but the Lord): the wife should not separate from her husband (but if she does, she should remain unmarried or else be reconciled to her husband), and the husband should not divorce his wife. To the rest I say (I, not the Lord) that if any brother has a wife who is an unbeliever, and she consents to live with him, he should not divorce her. Otherwise your children would be unclean, but as it is, they are holy.<br />
<br />
Mathew 5:17 states that he did not come to abolish the old laws but to fullfill them. Does this mean we should take the Old Testament out of the equation? <br />

It's pretty clear that under the New Testament divorce is not an option. These Christians that are opposing gay marriage but embracing divorce are giving all of us a bad rap. I wish they would start following the whole New Testament and stop cherry picking.<br />

We confess that our sins are of thought and word, of omission and commission. Jesus never had an evil thought, never spoke an evil word (not even when He was chastising the Pharisees for their blindness), never did anything wrong, and never <i>failed</i> to do the <i>right thing</i>. It’s a tough act to follow, but with the grace of God – which comes to us especially through frequent sacramental Confession and reception of Holy Communion – we can be built up “to the measure of the stature of the fullness of Christ.” (Eph. 4:13)<br />
<br />
Sins of omission, what i have failed to do? This, to me, is a very scary part of the prayer. We are asking forgiveness for what we failed to do. In order to ask for forgiveness, we must admit that we have failed to do something. The question is, what have i failed to do?<br />
<br />
This leads me to the question, how much is too much? My Priest once told me that we as a Church do not do enough to stop abortion in our community. I pointed out all that our Church does in the community and he said "As long as abortion exist, we do not do enough".<br />
<br />
As long as there are people going hungry in our community, are we sinning in our failure to prevent hunger if we are overweight?<br />
<br />
As long as there are poor among us that cannot pay there bills, are we sinning by living in opulence? Are we sinning if after the end of the month we have funds left over and we do not give to those less fortunate than us? Is giving 10% of our first fruits enough to keep us from failing to do?<br />
<br />
I like to think of myself as a decent guy who goes to church regularly, i give my money and my time to my church. I am involved in community projects to help the poor, hungry, and less fortunate. I thought i was doing the right thing up until the other day i decided i wanted a new wrist watch.<br />
<br />
I was driving back from Abilene and as i looked at my watch i thought to myself, maybe it is time to get a new watch. I rolled the idea around in my head for several miles and decided i wanted to buy a Rolex. Not the jewel encrusted type, just a nice simple Rolex.<br />
<br />
Granted, a Timex keeps the same time as a Rolex but a Rolex is a status symbol. To me, it was going to be a symbol that "I Made It". I could afford to wear a $5K watch simply because i could.<br />
<br />
Now the question keeps popping into my head, what have i failed to do? Is buying a Rolex too much? How much food could be bought with that $5K i was going to spend? Am i failing to do?<br />
<br />
I don't think it is sinful to own nice things. We go to work everyday to provide for our family and ourselves. For example, I need a truck that can pull a big trailer. I am pretty much limited to a one ton pickup truck. I do not think it is sinful to pay a little more to get an upgraded package as opposed to the base model. After all, I earned it. Or did I?<br />
<br />
Is it wrong to have a bigger or nicer house than what we need? Do we need tile showers when fiberglass will work? Do we need granite counter tops when Formica will work? Do we need to buy a dog with a pedigree when there are so many dogs in shelters?<br />
<br />
I don't know the answers to all of these questions. I sure wish i did. I do know that i will not buy that Rolex. <br />

They are posting how men from the Old Testament and many wives and concubines. Basically they are trying to mock Christian values.<br />

We as Christians know that marriage has evolved over time and we must be able to explain this. This evolution begs the question:<br />

Why
did God allow polygamy in the Old Testament? The Bible does not specifically say
why God allowed polygamy. As we speculate about God’s silence, there are a few
key factors to consider. First, while there are slightly more male babies than
female babies, due to women having longer lifespans, there have always been more
women in the world than men. Current statistics show that approximately 50.5
percent of the world population are women. Assuming the same percentages in
ancient times, and multiplied by millions of people, there would be tens of
thousands more women than men. Second, warfare in ancient times was especially
brutal, with an incredibly high rate of fatality. This would have resulted in an
even greater percentage of women to men. Third, due to patriarchal societies, it
was nearly impossible for an unmarried woman to provide for herself. Women were
often uneducated and untrained. Women relied on their fathers, brothers, and
husbands for provision and protection. Unmarried women were often subjected to
prostitution and slavery. The significant difference between the number of women
and men would have left many, many women in an undesirable
situation.<br />
<br />

So,
it seems that God may have allowed polygamy to protect and provide for the women
who could not find a husband otherwise. A man would take multiple wives and
serve as the provider and protector of all of them. While definitely not ideal,
living in a polygamist household was far better than the alternatives:
prostitution, slavery, or starvation. In addition to the protection/provision
factor, polygamy enabled a much faster expansion of humanity, fulfilling God’s
command to “be fruitful and increase in number; multiply on the earth” (Genesis
9:7). Men are capable of impregnating multiple women in the same time period,
causing humanity to grow much faster than if each man was only producing one
child each year.<br />
<br />
2) How does God view polygamy today? Even while allowing
polygamy, the Bible presents monogamy as the plan which conforms most closely to
God’s ideal for marriage. The Bible says that God’s original intention was for
one man to be married to only one woman: “For this reason a man will leave his
father and mother and be united to his wife [not wives], and they will become
one flesh [not fleshes]” (Genesis 2:24). While Genesis 2:24 is describing what
marriage is, rather than how many people are involved, the consistent use of the
singular should be noted. In Deuteronomy 17:14-20, God says that the kings were
not supposed to multiply wives (or horses or gold). While this cannot be
interpreted as a command that the kings must be monogamous, it can be understood
as declaring that having multiple wives causes problems. This can be clearly
seen in the life of Solomon (1 Kings 11:3-4).</div>
So when people tell you that traditional marriage used to be multiple wives, agree with them and say that marriage has evolved over time. But always remind them that marriage, although it has evolved, has ALWAYS been between opposite sexes. It has NEVER been between same sexes. </div>

I truly do not understand how a Christian Church can condone same sex marriage. Do they not read the same Bible as everyone else? I know that interpretation of the Bible has lead to many thousand factions of Christianity, but it seems to me that this topic is CLEARLY explained. <br />

Gay couples seeking to marry in Midland churches may face minimal barriers to finding a wedding altar. Many local churches are enthusiastic to offer their ministerial services. Others are exercising their religious freedom to preclude same-sex ceremonies.</span></span><span class="paragraph-1">The recently passed “pastor protection act,” which was signed into law earlier this month, redoubles First Amendment rights by creating extra protection of religious freedom for churches in Texas. The law, along with nearly 20 other bills filed during the last legislative session seeking to regulate LGBT and gay affairs, was filed in anticipation that the U.S. Supreme Court would lift gay marriage bans.</span>In effect, the bill allows any church or clergy in Texas to deny marrying same-sex couples.<br />
But even in conservative Midland, congregations are choosing the more inclusive option. The Unitarian Universalist Church of Midland will be marrying same-sex couples, and temporarily will offer free use of its facilities and services. That service will begin Monday and continue until Aug. 22.<br />
“This is not a controversial thing for us. We’ve been supporting LGBTQ rights since the ’70s,” said the Rev. Thomas Schmidt.<br />
The church’s board unanimously passed the initiative, he said.<br />
“Both in our theology and our stand on social issues, I’d say we’re among the most progressive,” Schmidt said.<br />
And while Episcopal churches across the region await the Northwest Texas clergy to issue a decision on whether Episcopal churches in the region will bestow their graces to same-sex couples, at least one local parish is hopeful.<br />
“We hope to be (marrying same-sex couples),” said the Rev. Dave Huxley of St. Nicholas’ Episcopal Church. “When we hear from (the bishop) we’ll know one way or another, but we’re working in that direction.”<br />
The Episcopalian clergy of the region currently are attending the 78th General Convention in Salt Lake City where they are discussing the issue of same-sex marriage. But according to a recent statement, a decision in line with the Supreme Court’s seems favorable.<br />
“We are satisfied at today’s Supreme Court ruling on same-sex marriage,” the Rt. Rev. Scott Mayer, the bishop of Northwest Texas diocese, said in a statement last Friday. “As we write this, the Episcopal Church is in discernment about what this means for our church life.<br />
“We are aware of the rich diversity of opinions held on this topic. We are also aware that for many this is not an ‘issue,’ but something that touches directly on their lives and their faithfulness in love,” the statement read.<br />
But as the opinion was handed down from the high court on Friday, other churches assumed postures against marrying same-sex couples. Hours after history was made, Bishop Michael Sis of the Diocese of San Angelo, issued the Catholic Church’s response:<br />
“The redefinition of marriage according to civil law does not change the understanding of marriage in our faith tradition,” Sis wrote. “The position of our Church is that marriage is a natural institution that predates any government.”<br />
And on Monday morning, Msgr. James Bridges, pastor of St. Stephen’s Catholic Church, penned his own measured response.<br />
“We may wish everybody held our view of marriage but our beloved country is pluralistic with an emphasis on separation of Church and State for the sake of religious freedom,” he wrote.<br />
“Every Sunday parents of gay children and gay adults occupy our pews. I beg gentleness as we voice our opposition to the legalization of same-sex marriage. Sexual orientation is not a choice, it is who we are. Our choice is how we manage it. … When it happens to us personally it becomes our challenge to manage our desired according to what we know is right or wrong.”<br />

The SEALs, Lt. Michael Murphy, Gunner’s Mate 2nd Class (SEAL) Danny Dietz, Sonar Technician 2nd Class (SEAL) Matthew Axelson and Hospital Corpsman 2nd Class (SEAL) Marcus Luttrell had a vital task. The four SEALs were scouting Ahmad Shah – a terrorist in his mid-30s who grew up in the adjacent mountains just to the south. <br /><br /> Under the assumed name Muhammad Ismail, Shah led a guerrilla group known to locals as the "Mountain Tigers" that had aligned with the Taliban and other militant groups close to the Pakistani border. The SEAL mission was compromised when the team was spotted by local nationals, who presumably reported its presence and location to the Taliban. <br /><br /> A fierce firefight erupted between the four SEALs and a much larger enemy force of more than 50 anti-coalition militia. The enemy had the SEALs outnumbered. They also had terrain advantage. They launched a well-organized, three-sided attack on the SEALs. The firefight continued relentlessly as the overwhelming militia forced the team deeper into a ravine. <br /><br /> Trying to reach safety, the four men, now each wounded, began bounding down the mountain's steep sides, making leaps of 20 to 30 feet. Approximately 45 minutes into the fight, pinned down by overwhelming forces, Dietz, the communications petty officer, sought open air to place a distress call back to the base. But before he could, he was shot in the hand, the blast shattering his thumb. <br /><br /> Despite the intensity of the firefight and suffering grave gunshot wounds himself, Murphy is credited with risking his own life to save the lives of his teammates. Murphy, intent on making contact with headquarters, but realizing this would be impossible in the extreme terrain where they were fighting, unhesitatingly and with complete disregard for his own life moved into the open, where he could gain a better position to transmit a call to get help for his men. <br /><br /> Moving away from the protective mountain rocks, he knowingly exposed himself to increased enemy gunfire. This deliberate and heroic act deprived him of cover and made him a target for the enemy. While continuing to be fired upon, Murphy made contact with the SOF Quick Reaction Force at Bagram Air Base and requested assistance. He calmly provided his unit’s location and the size of the enemy force while requesting immediate support for his team. At one point he was shot in the back causing him to drop the transmitter. Murphy picked it back up, completed the call and continued firing at the enemy who was closing in. Severely wounded, Lt. Murphy returned to his cover position with his men and continued the battle. <br /><br /> An MH-47 Chinook helicopter, with eight additional SEALs and eight Army Night Stalkers aboard, was sent is as part of an extraction mission to pull out the four embattled SEALs. The MH-47 was escorted by heavily-armored, Army attack helicopters. Entering a hot combat zone, attack helicopters are used initially to neutralize the enemy and make it safer for the lightly-armored, personnel-transport helicopter to insert.<br /><br /> The heavy weight of the attack helicopters slowed the formation’s advance prompting the MH-47 to outrun their armored escort. They knew the tremendous risk going into an active enemy area in daylight, without their attack support, and without the cover of night. Risk would, of course, be minimized if they put the helicopter down in a safe zone. But knowing that their warrior brothers were shot, surrounded and severely wounded, the rescue team opted to directly enter the oncoming battle in hopes of landing on brutally hazardous terrain.<br /><br /> As the Chinook raced to the battle, a rocket-propelled grenade struck the helicopter, killing all 16 men aboard. <br /><br /> On the ground and nearly out of ammunition, the four SEALs, Murphy, Luttrell, Dietz and Axelson, continued the fight. By the end of the two-hour gunfight that careened through the hills and over cliffs, Murphy, Axelson and Dietz had been killed. An estimated 35 Taliban were also dead.<br /> <br /> The fourth SEAL, Luttrell, was blasted over a ridge by a rocket propelled grenade and was knocked unconscious. Regaining consciousness some time later, Luttrell managed to escape – badly injured – and slowly crawl away down the side of a cliff. Dehydrated, with a bullet wound to one leg, shrapnel embedded in both legs, three vertebrae cracked; the situation for Luttrell was grim. Rescue helicopters were sent in, but he was too weak and injured to make contact. Traveling seven miles on foot he evaded the enemy for nearly a day. Gratefully, local nationals came to his aid, carrying him to a nearby village where they kept him for three days. The Taliban came to the village several times demanding that Luttrell be turned over to them. The villagers refused. One of the villagers made his way to a Marine outpost with a note from Luttrell, and U.S. forces launched a massive operation that rescued him from enemy territory on July 2. <br /><br /> By his undaunted courage, intrepid fighting spirit and inspirational devotion to his men in the face of certain death, Lt. Murphy was able to relay the position of his unit, an act that ultimately led to the rescue of Luttrell and the recovery of the remains of the three who were killed in the battle.<br /><br /> This was the worst single-day U.S. Forces death toll since Operation Enduring Freedom began nearly six years ago. It was the single largest loss of life for Naval Special Warfare since World War II. <br /><br /> The Naval Special Warfare (NSW) community will forever remember June 28, 2005 and the heroic efforts and sacrifices of our special operators. We hold with reverence the ultimate sacrifice that they made while engaged in that fierce fire fight on the front lines of the global war on terrorism (GWOT).<br />

Very interesting. The reality is that only 14 states had held out. 36 states had already passed laws that homosexual marriage was legal. <br />

The issue is that it is the law of the land. Since homosexual marriage is acceptable now, i wonder if the government is going to force muslims to perform homosexual marriages. That will be fun to watch considering islam allows followers to kill homosexuals. <br />

If anyone truly believes that the confederate flag causes hate, they really need to re-evaluate their perspective of life. I agree that the confederate flag has been adopted by hate groups but the American flag has been adopted by the same groups. At some point, common sense must kick in and we as a people need to stand up. Stand up for what is right. Call a hate group a hate group. Call an idiot an idiot. When are going to stand up?<br />

I find this slippery slope we are on very troubling. We are trying so hard to be tolerant of everyone that we are losing our heritage and re-writing our history. I ask again, when is enough going to be enough? What else do we have to tolerate in the name of freedom?<br />

younger generation is just impossible. If you think it is impossible, you need
to find another career. As managers and supervisors, it is our job to manage
and supervise these people. Once you understand generation “Y”, it’s not as
difficult as you think. Let’s start with some definitions.<o:p></o:p></div>

Sweat”. This generation is detail oriented, thorough, loyal and hard working.
They hate ambiguity, are reluctant to buck the system, uncomfortable with conflict
and stubborn when they disagree with you. <o:p></o:p></div>

dispersed. They are influenced by family and education, they hoped to master
technology and their motto is “No Problem”. This generation is service
oriented, driven, have strong people skills, want to please and are good team
players. They usually put process ahead of results, are overly sensitive to
feedback, are judgmental, and self-centered.<o:p></o:p></div>

influenced by the media. They enjoy technology and their motto is “No Fear”.
This generation is adaptable, techno-literate, independent, creative, and not intimidated
by authority. They are impatient, have interpersonal relationships, are inexperienced,
and cynical.<o:p></o:p></div>

even smaller than their preceding generation. They believe sex is ok as long as
it is safe. They don’t bother to get married and their idea of family is
alternative but respected. They are influenced by their friends and they employ
technology. Their motto is “Whatever”.<o:p></o:p></div>

This generation is optimistic, has tenacity, a heroic

for structure, need for supervision, cannot handle difficult people and they
are coming to terms with their limitations. They most admire traits of honesty
and integrity. They are used to moving at a fast pace. They have a spirit of
adventure and desire to have fun. Stress is in the form of prioritizing private
life to work life and they may be frustrated staying in one place too long.
They are busy transitioning out of school and securing jobs.<o:p></o:p></div>

to be the type of employee you want. Remember, they are in a transitional
period in their lives. They are moldable and this is your opportunity to make

As a matter of fact, it has been so long that i had to find the sign on information. <br />

It seems that Face book seems to be dominating the social media scene and i fell into that trap as well. I don't really write much on my Face book but i do like to see what other people are doing. It did allow myself and a bunch of my old shipmates to reunite and stay in touch.<br />
<br />
One thing i have noticed about social media is that it is destroying social contact. Back in the day, if a friend had an issue, they would contact their friends and they would find a solution for the issue. Now it seems that people post their issue on line and everyone chimes in saying they will pray for them. Although prayer is a powerful tool, sometimes human intervention is necessary. Social media seems to have done away with the human intervention.<br />

So what should we as a society do to solve this problem? Do we need to start talking to our frinds again the old way and get off the Face book?<br />
<br />
I don't really have an answer but i will try to make myself more available for human contact anytime i sense a friend of mine needs help. <br />

Some like Phil believe that homos cannot get into heaven. The LGBT community believe that homos have the same rights to heaven as everyone else. So who is right?<br />

Are we judging the homos because they sin differently from us? Most all Christians agree that we all fall short of the Glory of God. We are all sinners and we must accept that Jesus is the only way to gain entrance into heaven.<br />
<br />
So, if we are all sinners and we all fall short of the Glory of God and we all need Jesus to get into heaven, why is that the homos are left out?<br />
<br />
Well, since most Christians accept that we are all sinners, most Christians also believe that sinners must repent of their sins and try to become a better version of theirselves each day. Repenting of our sins seems to me what we need to focus on.<br />
<br />
Of course, to be repentant of homosexuality, the homosexual must first admit that homosexuality is in fact a sin. Since the Bible list homosexuality as a sin (1 Timothy 1, 10, and 1 Corinthians, 6, 9), we will assume it is a sin in this post.<br />
<br />
If we have a person that sins by having sex outside of marriage, that person is in a state of sin and should that person die, they couldn't get into heaven since they were in a sinful state. So how does this person repent of their sins? Whether you see a priest or join a support group, to be truly repentant, that person must stop the behavior that is creating the sin. <br />
<br />
In the case of homosexuals, they can consider themself homosexual but they must stop committing the sin to get into heaven. The only way to do this is to be celebate. If a homosexual is celebate, they are not committing any sin, they are repentant, and will have the same chance as anyone else in getting into heaven. At least, this is what Christians believe.<br />
<br />
So let's take religion out of the discussion. Let's look at this from a polar opposite view. Hell, lets just drag Darwin into the discussion. <span style="font-family: Arial;">

Remember those nasty rascals? Fully packed, one of the suckers weighed more than the poor devil hauling it. The damn things weighed a ton and some idiot with an off-center sense of humor sewed a carry handle on it to help you haul it. Hell, you could bolt a handle on a Greyhound bus but it wouldn't make the damn thing portable. The Army, Marines, and Air Force got footlockers and WE got a big ole' canvas bag.<br />After you warped your spine jackassing the goofy thing through a bus or train station, sat on it waiting for connecting transportation and made folks mad because it was too damn big to fit in any overhead rack on any bus, train, and airplane ever made, the contents looked like hell. All your gear appeared to have come from bums who slept on park benches. Traveling with a seabag was something left over from the "Yo-ho-ho and a bottle of rum" sailing ship days. Sailors used to sleep in hammocks, so you stowed your issue in a big canvas bag and lashed your hammock to it, hoisted it on your shoulder and, in effect, moved your entire home from ship to ship.<br />I wouldn't say you traveled light because with ONE strap it was a one shoulder load that could torque your skeletal frame and bust your ankles.<br />It was like hauling a dead linebacker.<br />They wasted a lot of time in boot camp telling you how to pack one of the suckers. There was an officially sanctioned method of organization that you forgot after ten minutes on the other side of the gate at Great Lakes or San Diego.<br />You got rid of a lot of the 'issue' gear when you went to a SHIP. Did<br />you EVER know a tin-can sailor who had a raincoat? A flat hat? One of those nut-hugger knit swimsuits? How bout those 'roll-your-own' neckerchiefs... the ones girls in a good Naval tailor shop would cut down & sew into a 'greasy snake' for two bucks?<br />Within six months, EVERY fleet sailor was down to ONE set of dress blues, port & starboard, undress blues, and whites, a couple of white hats, boots, shoes, a watch cap, assorted skivvies, a pea coat, and three sets of bleached-out dungarees.<br />The rest of your original issue was either in the pea coat locker, lucky bag, or had been reduced to wipe-down rags in the paint locker. Underway ships were NOT ships that allowed vast accumulation of private gear.<br />Hobos who lived in discarded refrigerator crates could amass greater<br />loads of pack-rat crap than fleet sailors. The confines of a<br />canvas-back rack, side locker, and a couple of bunk bags did NOT allow one to live a Donald Trump existence.<br />Space and the going pay scale combined to make us envy the lifestyle of a mud-hut Ethiopian. We were global equivalents of nomadic Mongols without ponies to haul our stuff.<br />And after the rigid routine of boot camp, we learned the skill of random compression, known by mothers world-wide as 'cramming'. It is amazing what you can jam into a space no bigger than a bread-box if you pull a watch cap over a boot and push it with your foot.<br />Of course, it looks kinda weird when you pull it out, but they NEVER hold fashion shows at sea and wrinkles added character to a 'salty' appearance.<br />There was a four-hundred mile gap between the images on recruiting<br />posters and the ACTUAL appearance of sailors at sea. It was NOT without justifiable reason that we were called the tin-can Navy.<br />We operated on the premise that if 'Cleanliness was next to Godliness' we must be next to the other end of that spectrum...<br />We looked like our clothing had been pressed with a waffle iron and<br />packed by a bulldozer. But what in hell did they expect from a bunch of swabs that lived in a crew's hole of a 2100 Fletcher Class can? After awhile you got used to it... You got used to everything you owned picking up and retaining that distinctive aroma... I completed Boot and "A" School in Great lakes IL. From there i was assigned the USS Belknap in Gaeta Italy. I have been to damn near every country that has a shore or harbor on the Mediterranean sea. I was 18 when i arrived in Gaeta and almost 21 when i left. I grew up in Liberty Bars. I found the following article and thought you might like it.<br /><br />Our favorite liberty bars were unlike no other watering holes or dens of iniquity inhabited by seagoing men. They had to meet strict standards to be in compliance with the acceptable requirement for a sailor beer-swilling dump. The first and foremost requirement was a crusty old gal serving suds. She had to be able to wrestle King Kong to parade rest. Be able to balance a tray with one hand, knock sailors out of the way with the other hand and skillfully navigate through a roomful of milling around drunks. On slow nights, she had to be the kind of gal who would give you a back scratch or put her foot on the table so you could admire her new ankle bracelet some "mook" brought her back from a Hong Kong liberty. A good barmaid had to be able to whisper sweet nothings in your young sailor ear like, "I love you no shit, you buy me Honda??"<br />"Buy a pack of Clorets and chew up the whole thing before you get within heaving range of any gal you ever want to see again." And, from the crusty old gal behind the bar, "Hey animals, I know we have a crowd tonight, but if any of you guys find the head facilities fully occupied and start pissing down the floor drain, you're gonna find yourself scrubbing the deck with your white hats!"<br />The barmaids had to be able to admire great tattoos, look at pictures of ugly bucktooth kids and smile. Be able to help haul drunks to cabs and comfort 19 year-olds who had lost someone he thought loved him in a dark corner booth. They could look at your ship's identification shoulder tab and tell you the names of the Skippers back to the time you were a Cub Scout.<br />If you came in after a late night maintenance problem and fell asleep with a half-eaten Slim-Jim in your hand, they tucked your peacoat around you, put out the cigarette you left burning in the ashtray and replaced the warm draft you left sitting on the table with a cold one when you woke up. Why? Simply because they were one of the few people on the face of the earth that knew what you did, and appreciated what you were doing.<br />And if you treated them like a decent human being and didn't drive 'em nuts by playing songs they hated on the juke box, they would lean over the back of the booth and park their soft, warm tits on your neck when they sat two San Miguel beers in front of you. And the Imported table wipe down guy and glass washer, trash dumper, deck swabber and paper towel replacer. The guy had to have baggy tweed pants and a gold tooth and a grin like a 1950 Buick. And a name like "Ramon", "Juan", "Pedro" or "Tico". He had to smoke unfiltered Luckies, Camels or Raleighs. He wiped the tables down with a sour wash rag that smelled like a billy goats crotch and always said, "How are choo navee mans tonight? He was the indispensable man. The guy with credentials that allowed him to borrow Slim-Jims, Beer Nuts and pickled hard boiled eggs from other beer joints when they ran out where he worked.<br />The establishment itself. The place had to have walls covered with ship and squadron plaques. The walls were adorned with enlarged unit patches and the dates of previous deployments. A dozen or more old, yellowed photographs of fellows named "Buster", "Chicago", "P-Boat Barney", "Flaming Hooker Harry", "Malone", "Honshu Harry", "Jackson", "Douche Bag Doug", and "Capt Slade Cutter" decorated any unused space. It had to have the obligatory Michelob, Pabst Blue Ribbon and "Beer Nuts sold here" neon signs. An eight-ball mystery beer tap handle and signs reading. This was typical signage found in any good liberty bar.<br />You had to have a juke box built along the lines of a Sherman tank loaded with Hank Williams, Mother Maybelle Carter, Johnny Horton, Johnny Cash and twenty other crooning goobers nobody ever heard of. The damn thing has to have "La Bamba", Herb Alpert's "Lonely Bull" and Johnny Cash's "Don't take your guns to town". The furniture in a real good liberty bar had to be made from coal mine shoring lumber and was not fully acceptable until it had 600 cigarette burns and your ship's numbers or "F**k the Navy" carved into it. The bar had to have a brass foot rail and at least six Slim-Jim containers, an oversized glass cookie jar full of Beer-Nuts, a jar of pickled hard boiled eggs that could produce rectal gas emissions that could shut down a sorority party, and big glass containers full of something called Pickled Pigs Feet and Polish Sausage.<br />Only drunk Chiefs and starving Ethiopians ate pickled pig's feet and unless the last three feet of your colon had been manufactured by Midas, you didn't want to get anywhere near the Polish Napalm Dogs.<br />No liberty bar was complete without a couple of hundred faded ship or airplane pictures and a "Shut the hell up!" sign taped on the mirror behind the bar along with several rather tasteless naked lady pictures. The pool table felt had to have at least three strategic rips as a result of drunken competitors and balls that looked as if a gorilla baby had teethed on the sonuvabitches.<br />Liberty bars were home and it didn't matter what country, state, or city you were in. When you walked into a good liberty bar, you felt at home. These were also establishments where 19 year-old kids received an education available nowhere else on earth. You learned how to "tell" and "listen" to sea stories.<br />You learned about sex at $10.00 a pop -- from professional ladies who taught you things your high school biology teacher didn't know were anatomically possible. You learned how to make a two cushion bank shot and how to toss down a beer and shot of Sun Torry known as a "depth charge."<br />We were young, and a helluva long way from home. We were pulling down crappy wages for twenty-four hours a day, seven days a-week availability and loving the life we lived. We didn't know it at the time, but our association with the men we served with forged us into the men we became. And a lot of that association took place in bars where we shared the stories accumulated in our, up to then, short lives. We learned about women and that life could be tough on a gal.<br />While many of our classmates were attending college, we were getting an education slicing through the green rolling seas in WestPac, experiencing the orgasmic rush of a night cat shot, the heart pounding drama of the return to the ship with the gut wrenching arrestment to a pitching deck. The hours of tedium, boring holes in the sky late at night, experiencing the periodic discomfort of turbulence, marveling at the creation of St. Elmo's Fire, and sometimes having our reverie interrupted with stark terror.<br />But when we came ashore on liberty, we could rub shoulders with some of the finest men we would ever know, in bars our mothers would never have approved of, in saloons and cabarets that would live in our memories forever. Long live those liberties in WestPac and in the Med - They were the greatest! Word gets around about Heidi’s “drink now, pay later” marketing strategy and, as a result, increasing numbers of customers flood into Heidi’s bar. Soon she has the largest sales volume for any bar in Detroit .

<br />By providing her customers freedom from immediate payment demands, Heidi gets no resistance when, at regular intervals, she substantially increases her prices for wine and beer, the most consumed beverages.Consequently, Heidi’s gross sales volume increases massively.A young and dynamic vice-president at the local bank recognizes that these customer debts constitute valuable future assets and increases Heidi’s borrowing limit. He sees no reason for any undue concern, since he has the debts of the unemployed alcoholics as collateral.
<br />At the bank’s corporate headquarters, expert traders figure a way to make huge commissions, and transform these customer loans into DRINKBONDS. These securities then are bundled and traded on international securities markets.

<br />Naive investors don’t really understand that the securities being sold to them as AAA secured bonds really are debts of unemployed alcoholics. Nevertheless, the bond prices continuously climb, and the securities soon become the hottest-selling items for some of the nation’s leading brokerage houses.

<br />One day, even though the bond prices still are climbing, a risk manager at the original local bank decides that the time has come to demand payment on the debts incurred by the drinkers at Heidi’s bar. He so informs Heidi.
<br />
<br />Heidi then demands payment from her alcoholic patrons, but being unemployed alcoholics they cannot pay back their drinking debts. Since Heidi cannot fulfill her loan obligations she is forced into bankruptcy. The bar closes and Heidi’s 11 employees lose their jobs.
<br />Overnight, DRINKBOND prices drop by 90%. The collapsed bond asset value destroys the bank’s liquidity and prevents it from issuing new loans, thus freezing credit and economic activity in the community.The suppliers of Heidi’s bar had granted her generous payment extensions and had invested their firms’ pension funds in the BOND securities. They find they are now faced with having to write off her bad debt and with losing over 90% of the presumed value of the bonds. Her wine supplier also claims bankruptcy, closing the doors on a family business that had endured for three generations, her beer supplier is taken over by a competitor, who immediately closes the local plant and lays off 150 workers.
<br />Fortunately though, the bank, the brokerage houses and their respective executives are saved and bailed out by a multibillion dollar no-strings attached cash infusion from their cronies in government.
<br />
<br />The funds required for this bailout are obtained by new taxes levied on employed, middle-class, non-drinkers who have never been in Heidi’s bar.
